This is the best time of the year to fish with the wind in your face, the sun heats up the surface layers of the lake and the wind pushes this warm water into the downwind margins, and the carp follow.
Spring is my favourite time of year to get out on the banks, these conditions are brilliant, combined with the fact that the carp are waking up from their dormant spell and havent seen a hook for a few months, the banks are still quiet compared to the summer and the chance of a 'big hit' are high.
Remember, getting the location right when the carp are feeding is far more important than fancy rigs and the latest 'super' boilie'.
A word of caution, at this time of the year the carp can just as easily slip back into winter 'mode' if the weather goes cold again, if that warm south westerly turns easterly, you dont want to fishing with the wind in your face, those carp will retreat back to their winter haunts and wait for warmer days.
So watch the weather forecasts, timing is everything, react to the conditions, and you could have one of your best sessions of the year.
As I write this the water temperature in my pond has gone from 2 degrees to 6 degrees in 2 days and my koi are taking floating pellets off the top, 2 days ago they were lying dormant in one corner, these are the signs to watch for, so get out there and get those rods bent.
