“Thefts at Linear Fisheries” – Press Release.
We at Linear totally deplore and condemn the thefts that took place on their waters recently and have great sympathy with the Anglers who had their tackle stolen. The Fishery will take all further, reasonable measures to protect Anglers from outrages such as this, and seek to maintain the enjoyment and satisfaction that the vast majority of visitors get from fishing our waters.
For this reason the Directors of Linear, in addition to the extensive security arrangements already in place have doubled their security company’s night visits on the checking of all gates and boundaries and after dark we now have in place a full time security presence that includes patrolling all the waters. These extra security measures will be maintained while the Directors seek Police and other Security advice to review the protection already given to Anglers on their fishery, and in light of the recent incidents. We will also seek advice regarding how the individual angler can also enhance his personal security. With such big areas to control it is not a straightforward task to ensure our sites are safe against potential intruders, particularly at night, but visitors to Linear’s day ticket waters should be reassured that the security of Anglers remains a high priority.
The issue of tackle thefts at fisheries is a nationwide problem, not just confined to Linear’s waters. Our policy continues to be that where we experience such incidents they will be reported on our website. Even though this may be detrimental to us, we believe Anglers should be aware of such issues and how we intend to deal them.
Following these thefts we have received some unwelcome and unreasonable comments from a minority in the Angling community. This is disappointing, given our past efforts to provide security at the fishery, and while we welcome constructive criticism, this is a time when Anglers and Fishery operators should be working together to defeat these criminals who are having such an adverse affect on our sport, and the livelihoods of those working in it. Accordingly we request that anybody with any information that may help to deal with the problem should pass it on to the Police, either directly or through us.
Further announcements will be made on the website as our security review progresses. In the mean time Linear remains open for Business as normal-providing great fishing in beautiful surroundings.
The Police officer to contact in respect of information relating to the thefts is: DC Paddy O’Grady with the CID 08458 505505. Alternatively you can leave any relevant details anonymously with “Crime stoppers” on 0800 555111.
